Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,

Welcome to Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts- A place where our students can gain a focused academic curriculum while using the arts as a vehicle for achieving academic excellence.   We are very honored to be the first school in the nation to be named after the first lady, Michelle Obama.  Our facility opened as a fourth through eighth grade school in September of 2014.  We are in the process of building an addition onto our school to provide our students with enhanced learning environments such as a new gym, computer labs, reading labs, and a performance stage that is scheduled to be completed in October of 2015.

Our performing arts instructors have been carefully selected for their dedication to students and their passion for teaching and learning through the arts. They each bring with them their own special talents and interests including dance, drama, art, and musical abilities. Both co-principals come with a fine arts background in dance and music education. Classroom teachers’ instruction will be based on common core state standards, but will be enhanced with learning opportunities infusing the arts in everyday lessons.

By creating a nurturing artistic middle school experience, the district will be fulfilling a need for many children who will thrive in this unique environment. The faculty and staff will focus on building a strong sense of community and positive self-worth. Students’ strengths and accomplishments will be celebrated throughout the school year. Performances and exhibitions will be scheduled monthly to spotlight the students' talents.

We believe that it is our goal at Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts to help each student reach his or her fullest potential by using creativity and performing arts as a foundation for learning, creating, and living a productive life. We look forward to working with each of you in continuing to establish a school with high academic rigor and creative artistic endeavors in our community.

Artistically yours,

 Dr. Cheryl Muench, Co-Principal
 Mrs. Annamarie Dowling, Co-Principal
